History – WW2 Soldier Vincent James Bartlett NX129741

Vincent James Bartlett was born on 28 November 1921 at Lansdowne to Hilton James Bartlett and Flora D Turner.

Vincent enlisted at Lansdowne on 8 August 1942 aged 20 years 10 months stating his occupation as Sawmill employee and his next of kin as his father Hilton James Bartlett of Upper Lansdowne.

Vincent served with the Citizen Military Forces from 1 October 1941 to 7 August 1942 and then with the Australian Imperial Force from 8 August 1942 to 28 February 1946.

On 20 October 1942 he embarked for New Guinea and received a gunshot wound to the forearm in February 1943.  He returned to Cairns in May 1943.  He remained in Queensland until December 1944 when he embarked from Cairns on board the Thomas Corwin arriving in Aitape, New Guinea on 7 December 1944 where he remained until his discharge on 28 February 1946.

At the time of discharge on 28 February 1946, he was posted to 2/6 Australian Infantry Battalion.

Vincent married Olva Dorothea McGann at Taree in 1946.
