Victor James Ritchie was born on 1 May 1908 at Taree to Arthur James Ritchie and Mary Jane Currie. Victor married Mary I Whatson at Taree in 1935.
Prior to enlisting in the AIF, Victor has served in the CMF from 29 April 1941 to 24 October 1942 where he was attached to the 4th Australian Auxiliary Horsed Transport Coy.
He enlisted on 25 October 1942 into the Australian Imperial Force at Harrington and was aged 34 stating his wife Mary Ritchie as his next of kin and his occupation as fisherman.
On the 5 April 1943 he was transferred to the 2/10 Australian Infantry Battalion.
Victor embarked overseas and served in New Guinea from 12 August 1943 to 2 June 1944.
When Victor was discharged on 21 November 1945 he was posted to 2/10 Australian Infantry Battalion.
Victor’s brothers Eric John Ritchie and Ray William Ritchie also served in WW2.
Victor died in 1992 aged 84.
