Lionel Claude Minett was born at Lansdowne on 5 July 1912 to Arthur John Minett and Edith Jane Gilbert. Lionel married Mary Alberta Garland at Taree in 1935.
Lionel enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on the 5 March 1942 at Wingham. He listed his wife Mary as his next of kin and his occupation as bacon factory hand. He was originally posted to the Infantry Training Battalion but was soon transferred to the 9 Motor Ambulance Convoy where he remained.
He served a total of 994 days of active service. In November 1944 he was assessed as being medically unfit for further military service.
At the time of discharge on 1 January 1945, he was posted to 9 Motor Ambulance Convoy. Lionel died on 24 August 1984 in Sydney aged 72 and is buried at Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park, Sydney.
