Leslie Augustus Unger was born on 2 March 1922 at Lansdowne to Leonard Theodore Unger and Theresa Honor Curley.
Prior to enlisting in the AIF Leslie served in the CMF from 1 December 1941 to 19 November 1942 and was stationed in Darwin.
Leslie enlisted in the Australian Army on 20 November 1942 at Darwin and was aged 20 years 10 months stating his occupation as textile worker and his father Leonard Theodore Unger as his next of kin.
Leslie remained in the Northern Territory until his discharge. He was also in Darwin at the time of the bombing by the Japanese Army.
Leslie was awarded the 1939/45 Star, the Defence Medal, the War Medal 1939/45 and the Australia Service Medal 1939/45.
When Leslie was discharged on 13 June 1946 he was posted to 11 Aust Sup Depot Platoon.
Leslie’s sister Edna also enlisted in the WAAF during WW2.
Leslie married Mavis Caroline Hutson on 15 February 1947 at Naremburn and they had 2 children, Gregory and Ian.
Leslie died on 2 May 1961 aged 39 and is buried at the Woronora Cemetery.
