History – WW2 Soldier Joseph Arthur Dodds NX160125

Joseph Arthur Dodds was born on 30 June 1917 at Singleton to Leonard Charles Dodds and Anne Howe.

Prior to joining the AIF, Joseph enlisted in the CMF on 23 April 1941 at Taree.  In September 1941 he was transferred to Sigs NCF at Rutherford.  He was then posted to various locations including Raymond Terrace and Largs.  On 5 September 1942 he was transferred to Darwin Details Depot.

Joseph enlisted in the Australian Army on 11 November 1942 at Darwin and was aged 25 years 4 months stating his occupation as farmer and his father Leonard Charles Dodds as his next of kin.

On 30 July 1943 he was transferred to 5 Aust Pack Transport Company in NSW.  Over the next year he was transferred numerous times within NSW.  In May 1944 Joseph was transferred to Queensland.  On 23 June 1945 Joseph married Blanche Kathleen May Morvan at Muttaburra, Queensland.  Joseph and Blanch had 6 children.

At the time of his discharge on 1 November 1945 he was posted to 2/103 Australian General Transport Platoon.

Joseph died on 21 April 1975 at Singleton aged 58 and is buried in the Bulga Cemetery.
