History – WW2 Soldier James Percy Mooney NX649

James Percy Mooney was born on 1 September 1905 at Wherrol Flat to James Mooney and Mary Cross.

James enlisted in the Australian Army on the 3 April 1941 at Upper Lansdowne aged 35 years 6 months and listed his wife Jane Mooney as his next of kin and his occupation as motor lorry driver.  He was originally posted to 5 Infantry Training Battalion.

While serving in Australia he spent time at Canterbury, Tamworth and Sydney.

He embarked from Sydney on 1 November 1941 to the Middle East returning on 26 March 1942 a total of 146 days.

On 29 March 1944 he was classified as being medically unfit for military service by the Medical Board.

At the time of discharge on 5 July 1944, he was posted to 4/5 Reinforcement 2/20 Battalion.

James married Jane Elizabeth Payne at Taree in 1941.  James died on 3 July 1955 at Sydney aged 49.
