Harold Victor Schubert was born on 6 May 1922 at Taree to Albert Victor Schubert and Sarah Emma Atkins.
Prior to his enlistment in the AIF Harold had served part time in the Citizen Military Forces (CMF) from 21 August 1940 to 17 December 1941. Whilst serving part time he attended 13 Australian Infantry Battalion HQ camps of 70 days continuous training at Rutherford from 1 September 1940 until 9 November 1940 and camps of continuous training at Greta for a total of 72 days between the dates of 8 March 1941 and 23 May 1941. He then served full time in the CMF from 18 December 1941 to 26 July 1942.
He enlisted on 27 July 1942 into the Australian Imperial Force at Taree and was aged 20 years and 2 months stating his mother Sarah Emma Schubert as his next of kin and his occupation as sawmill hand.
At the time of enlistment he was posted to 3rd Army Tank Battalion. On 15 September 1943 he was transferred from New South Wales to Queensland and then back to New South Wales on 26 July 1944.
Harold received the War Medal 1939-45 and the Australia Service Medal 1939-45.
When Harold was discharged on 15 March 1945 he was posted to 21 Mechanic Equipment Platoon.
Harold married Joyce Willard Smith at North Sydney in 1950.
