The Lansdowne Brigade will be at the Hall, with information and leaflets on personal and farm fire plans, and lots of other details to help you get ready for the fire season. They are always happy to advise on individual situations.

Yes its been a very wet year so far, but fires are still possible as the grass fire in the village last Wednesday showed. Fortunately it was put out by quick work by three local brigades before it could threaten the school and several houses.

We are in for a hot summer, according to the long range forecast – never mind the record breaking August heat!

That wet period has built up decent fuel loads around the area making it even more important to do the start of fire season preparation – clean the gutters, tidy up any flammable bits around the house, keep the grass short (that long cured grass in the village fire burnt very well even where the ground was swampy). Lots more ideas here.

Bring the kids along to have a play with the trucks, and you don’t have to be a kid to have  a sticky-beak at the equipment. There will be a sausage sizzle and cake and tea & coffee.

The RFS is always looking for volunteers and provides a full set of free courses on everything from fire weather to pumps, etc which are very useful if you have a bush property.

Thanks to all the people who signed up to Upper Lansdowne Connect last year. Please consider registering – it is a communication network for residents to share information and requests for help in emergencies.
